Excuse the absolutely woeful title. It was easier than y’know, actually thinking.
I decided one day that I would like very much to go to Electric Picnic. It just seemed like it would be a good thing to do. But if you’re any way like me, you’re looking at the line-up and going “Arcade Fire! PJ Harvey! Other bands I kinda like! Wait…hu r deze ppl hurrdurr?” It seems that every year EP finds a way of making me look clueless about music. So I did a little research. And hoooo boy, am I glad I did. Here are a some bands that I will be quite happy (to stand in a field in the rain) to see.
WARPAINT
Art-rock? Is that a thing? OK then. But I guess…Warpaint can be beautifully sparse and ambient (like say, The xx) and they can also well, rock. Not to mention the creepy vibe that drips from every song. Art-rock it is, then.
BEST COAST
Best Coast are probably the opposite of Warpaint, in that listening to the music immediately conjures images of a sun-drenched beaches and hot surfers and stuff. Their songs sound so lazy - music for watching the world go by. It’s pretty wonderful.
YUCK
Comparisons have been drawn between Yuck and Sonic Youth/Pavement/all that lot and yeah, Yuck pretty much are a ’90s revival band. But it sounds GOOD. So who cares?
EVERYTHING EVERYTHING
Everything Everything are bad in that they remind me of the Kaiser Chiefs – this whole cheeky chappy, aren’t we so clever? attitude is not fun, guys. But this song sounds like it would be a ton of fun to bounce around to, which is quite important to me in music.
I’ve never been to a festival before, so it’s probably a good idea to go to EP – my chances of surviving Oxegen would be slim-to-nil. I need to gently dip my toe in the water before diving in, so to speak. I am open to all band recommendations and festival tips, so if you have any, send them on in! Go on, impress me with your musical/festival knowledge. Double dog dare ya.
